Diagnostic testing and monitoring
Optical Coherence Tomography of the Retinal Nerve Fiber Layer (OCT RNFL): This is a non-invasive picture that measures the thickness of the retinal nerves that comprise your optic nerve. It is important to make an early diagnosis and continue monitoring disease progression.
Visual Field Testing: This is an invaluable tool to determine how well the optic nerve is functioning and allows us to monitor if further optic nerve function has been lost. Most patients find this test cumbersome and feel they do not perform well. You are not alone and this feeling is not uncommon! The machine is programmed quite intelligently and can detect various parameters such as you falling asleep, missing lights, or pressing the button for lights when you should not be.
We only ask that you follow our technicians instructions, give it your best try, and allow the doctor to interpret your results for you.
